Flow Charts

For this assignment I thought about how I would do to get on google and to order a book online. So, i took my time to think about every step and the process of each thing. At first  I found it difficult to have to use a different symbol for every information since the steps all look kind of the same. What i did was I organized it with the yes and no and asked questions. I didn't do it exactly as what would say if you go online and do this, what I did was that I decreased the cognitive load by providing less information for every step. In conclusion, I really enjoyed doing the flow charts and I feel like a really learned and got a lot from it. Flow charts are a great way to organize things in an easier way and be able to know what exact symbol to use for each information provided.

Explanation Graphic

Original Graphic

First Interation

Second Interation

My Final Graphic

At first I didn't know what I could do my graphic about. I started looking around my dorm and then I rememebred AHA! that last week my printer had no more ink and I had to replace it. I didn't know how to install it so I used the instructions with the steps. What I did was I did  new steps and instead of doing 8 steps I put all of them in 6 steps. I included less colors from the original grapic and instead of putting all the information and images in two papers like the orginal graphic I put all of the information and images in just one paper to make it easier for my audience. While doing this I thought a lot about my audience and how I could make this easier for them insted of making it look long and confusing I made it simple and easy since to isntall ink cartidges to this specific printer is something easy and simple to achieve. I really enjoyed this assignment and learned a lot from it.

"How to make a Spaghetti Dinner"

For this assignment, I first thought about my audience which was non-readers or non-english speakers. I started by drawing every step as I could remember. I decided to use colors to represent everything. At first, I didn't know how to represent "hot water" so after thinking about it I decided to use fire to represent the hot water or the water boiling. I used arrows to represent what went next after every step. I also used arrows to represent what went inside or outside of what. For example I used arrows to represent the spaghetti without being cooked and then having to be put inside the hot water. I tried to use the real color of everything so that my non- readers or non- english speakers could understand every step perfectly and be able to make spaghetti successfully.

Fertilizer Sketch

For my sketch on the fertilizer instructions I decided to organize each result in a different box. In each box I wrote the code for the ending result and then drew instructions for the audience that will use the fertilizer. I used symbols to represent everything I wanted to show. For temperatures above 90 degrees I used the symbol of an arrow going up with the colors red, orange, and red. To represent the dry days I drew drops of water but inside a circle that crossed out the water. To represent wet days I drew the same drops of water but not crossed out. For the insect damage I drew insects. Finally, to represent temperatures below 90 degrees I drew an arrow going down with lighter colors like yellow and blue. I really enjoyed doing this sketch.

Collage

When I started doing my collage I thought it was very easy since it was just taking images from a magazine an putting them on a paper. But, after I was assigned to really look at the patterns and content of my collage I noticed the bright colors on my collage. I also noticed the magazine writings that are all around. The pattern with the bright colors and how I mixed colors with black and white. I noticed the movement of the people in the collage and how it is full of people. I really enjoyed making my collage but what I enjoyed the most was after making my collage I was able to look at it and find the patterns in it.

Concept Map

I decided to do a concept map since they are fun to do. At first, I had no idea what to do so I  began to think about things I had a lot of information about. So, I decided to do my concept map based on where i'm from which is Dominican Republic. I started by drawing a beach and on one side wrote Dominican Republic. Then, I wrote things that reminded me of Dominican Republic. I wrote the capital, names of some beaches, where Dominican Republic was located and more. I decided to write in bold orange letters what Dominican Republic meant for me. So I wrote Dominican Republic is "Paradise".

Then, I cropped one side of my map in which I wrote things that came from the word Dominican Republic.  Like " the capital is Santo domingo", "is in the Caribbean", and " has beautiful beaches".
After I drew the beach in my map I added some colors to the words and some bright colors to the background since the colors that remind me about my country are all bright colors.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed making my concept map. At first I encountered some problems with how I wanted to do my map, and what I wanted to do my map about. After all, i'm happy with my work. I look forward for more Concept Map in the future.

Mind Map

Map 1 : I decided to make my mind map based on my major which is communications.I started by drawing half of a face. Focusing on the eyes. At first I didn’t know where I could put the branches with the words so I thought of doing something different like including the words in the hair of the boy I drew. So with the hair I created the branches with everything that was related and reminded me of Communications. I wrote every word that came up in my head. When I was done drawing with the black sharpie, I added colors to my map. I doodled around it and drew different things that reminded me of every word on my map.

Map 2: For my second mind map I decided to take the word “ Language”. I decided to write around the word “ language” all the languages I can speak, languages I can understand, and languages I want to learn. I put “spanish” as my first language and 5 stars on top of it since spanish is my main language. Then I wrote “english” and drew 4 stars on top of it. Then, 3 stars on top of “italian” since I can understand everything but not speak it perfectly. 2 stars on “portuguese” since I can also understand it perfectly but can’t speak it at all , and 1 star on top of “french” since I can understand some words. Then, I wrote the other languages i’m interested in learning. I wrote “ greek”, “ turkish” , “arabic” , “chinese” , and “ german”. I doodled around with words of the languages I wanted to learn. On the center of my second mind map I drew two eyes and a mouth.

Conclusion: While doing both mind maps I learned new things about visuals. I came to the conclusion that visual learning is the best and easiest way to learn. I really enjoyed doing this work. I can’t wait for more mind maps in the future.
